How to make your own Cluffy wedge?

The Cluffy Wedge is a useful pad that helps with the function of the big toe joint and windlass mechanism of the foot. You can buy them at retail and wholesale.

The Cluffy Wedge is a relatively simple addition and many clinicians and foot orthotic labs make their own and call it different names (they just can’t all it a ‘Cluffy Wedge’ as that name is trademarked).

All you need is a material that is 3-4mm thick, such as EVA or podiatry felt or even a piece of carpet underlay. That needs to be glued in the shoe or adhered underneath the top cover of a foot orthotic. It is place just in from of the first metatarsophalangeal (big toe) joint under the hallux (big toe). It can’t be too think other wise it jams the big toe nail up against the vamp of the shoe, but needs to be thick enough to have a clinical effect.
