Helbing sign or Helbing’s sign is an observation of the alignment of the Achilles tendon from behind when weightbearing. It is seen as the amount of concavity or medial bowing of the Achilles tendon as the calcaneus everts past vertical. It has been considered an observation of the amount of pronation of the foot. The sign was first described by the German physician, Carl Helbing in 1905 in the context of a child’s foot development
Helbing sign probably has limited clinical usefulness.
