Post-static dyskineisa is the technical term for that worse pain under the heel when you get up from rest, especially getting out of bed in the morning. ‘Post-static’ refers to the after resting and the ‘dyskinesia’ refers to the pain. It is a common characteristic sign of plantar fasciitis, but can also be due to other less common problems. Typically the pain can be quite painful and starts to ease after a number of steps.
There are many theories as to what post static dyskinesia can be due to. It could just be the impact that the normal morning stiffness we all have on the pain. It could be from swelling from the inflammation building up during the rest period or sleep. It could be the plantarflexed position of the foot during rest leading to a shortening of the plantar fascia and the calf muscles that put more pressure on the site of injury until they get stretched out a bit by walking.
If you have this problem, there are a few things that you can do before getting up from rest to make it easier.
