The name Grierson Gopalan syndrome is just another name for burning feet syndrome. Grierson Gopalan syndrome is still used somewhat these days but it is being used less often and the preferred name is burning feet or foot syndrome.
There are a number of causes of burning feet, but a significant number have no readily identifiable cause. In these idiopathic cases, the name Grierson Gopalan syndrome is more likely to be used.
Grierson and Gopalan, both from India were the first to describe the syndrome of burning feet in 1829 (Grierson) and in 1946 (Gopalan), hence there name was given to the syndrome.
